Job Description
Under general supervision of the archivist, the assistant archivist will assist in bringing a “We the People” grant project through the National Endowment for the Humanities to a successful conclusion. Activities will include: assisting with re-housing and inventorying archival records; writing record group, subgroup and series descriptions; performing EAD encoding of finding aid; supervising the work of archives technicians, interns and student; and helping to prepare a virtual exhibit. The assistant archivist will also be responsible for: providing research assistance, writing reports, promoting the collections’ use through digitization and other activities. Also assists with committee work, fundraising and other duties as assigned.Additional Info & Requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry out duties which may require strenuous physical work, including standing for extended periods of time, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling carts, reaching and lifting. Work is performed under office and warehouse conditions. Individuals with asthma or other breathing problems are advised that certain areas will be dusty and/or dirty.One year of experience working with archival collections; experience processing large collections; knowledge of EAD, Microsoft Access, internet technologies, and other electronic applications relevant to archives.HR Info
