Job Description

Position Description: This 12 month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor will act as a member of the Library’s Information Management Team, ensuring that the University complies with state guidelines for the retention, preservation, and disposal of important documents. Collect, organize, preserve, and provide access to both print and electronic University administrative and historical records. Develop and oversee Special Collections. Provide reference service; teach library classes, serve as a liaison to assigned University departments, and engage in scholarship and service. Responsibilities: The University Archivist/Records Manager will perform the following duties: • Manage University Archives and Special Collections including: o Develop and revise policies and procedures for University Archives o Obtain, inventory, process, organize, preserve and provide access to archival materials o Provide leadership for the University in the preservation of and access to digital records o Develop and use appropriate database programs for computer inventory and access of records o Identify, develop, and supervise digitization projects, including developing standards, digitizing records, creating metadata using appropriate metadata schema, and depositing collections into institutional repository o Create appropriate finding aids for archival collections in both print and EAD formats o Provide leadership in the development of new and existing special collections; especially the Library’s newly established Southern Colorado Ethnic Heritage and Diversity Archives which includes the Chicano Movement Archives o Manage current and potential donor relations o Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student assistants working in the archives area o Develop outreach materials including informational text for the archives website, news items, promotional materials, etc. • Coordinate records retention and management for all University departments, including contacting departments to assess their records holdings and procedures and providing information concerning the State Archives’ mandates regarding such record holdings and procedures. Prepare State Archives reports as necessary. • Provide reference and instruction services, including some nights and weekends. o Provide one-on-one assistance at reference desk o Provide virtual reference services as scheduled o Perform specialized database searching as needed o Teach courses for library instruction program including, but not limited to, classes in the liaison area • Serve as liaison to one or more academic departments, helping to coordinate collection management and instruction for the assigned subject areas. • Perform sustained inquiry into discipline leading to practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly or creative output. • Serve the Library, the University, and the profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.
