Job Description

Under general supervision, arranges archival materials; places archival materials in appropriate housing and labels folders and containers; assists in preparation and inputting of draft finding aids; uses a personal computer and word processing software; shelves collections; maintains statistics of archival materials processed, hours typing, hours labeling, etc.; prepares monthly report; provides office support as required; may supervise the work of student interns and volunteers; may perform basic conservation functions such as removing/replacing paper fasteners and flattening folded documents/ other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent oral and written communication skill; organized and detail-oriented; able to work independently; mush have a sense of humor; flexible and able to handle changing situations with equanimity; able to use a personal computer and standard office machines. Experience with, and knowledge of, basic clerical skills including typing, sorting and filing. Ability to handle archival materials with care and consideration. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to life up to 50 pounds and carry out duties which may require strenuous physical work, including standing for extended periods of time, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling carts, reaching and lifting. Work is performed under office and warehouse conditions. Individuals with asthma or other breathing problems are advised that certain areas will be dusty and/or dirty.
