Job Description

Join one of the number one-rated library districts in the nation (rating number one in our population range – see Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings)! Douglas County Libraries, headquartered in Castle Rock, Colorado (just south of Denver and north of Colorado Springs), is seeking an energetic and innovative information technology leader to join our senior management team. In the past couple of years our independent library district has converted from barcode to RFID, from traditional checkout to self-check and automated materials handling, from branch-specific phone reference to a centralized call center, from spine-out stacks to exciting, attention-grabbing displays, and more. Imagine leading our technology efforts in this creative, exciting and dynamic environment as we tackle the frontier of 21st century librarianship. We are one of the largest library systems in Colorado. We checked out over 7.1 million items in 2008, and our circulation increased by 11%. We serve almost 250,000 residents in the county. Our branch locations include state-of-the-art, innovative facilities in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Louviers, Parker, Roxborough and a new branch in Castle Pines (opening in September 2009). We are not just distributors of books, bytes, music, and movies. (Although we're good at that, too -- with an average per capita circulation of over 25 per year.) We are catalysts for community change and active civic engagement. Come visit our website (DouglasCountyLibraries.org) and learn about us. Then, if you want to join a team defining the future of our profession, apply for the job. If you are our ideal candidate, you are a dynamic and forward-thinking leader, an effective change agent, an excellent communicator and a supportive team player. You are eager to lead efforts to fulfill our organization’s vision and mission through the effective provision of information technology, communications technology, Web administration and Contact Center services. Under the direction of the Library Director, this position has responsibility for oversight of computer services and applications, systems, networks, security and communications for the district. The position supervises and directs the work of the Information Technology staff, and serves as a member of the district’s senior management team. You would also oversee the operations of our Contact Center.

Additional Info & Requirements

Salary range is $67K - $98K + full and generous benefits. Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. Applications received by August 31, 2009 will receive first consideration. We also require a minimum five years of general systems administration working with a large scale network and in a system management environment. A minimum of three years of current, progressively responsible management/supervisory experience is also required. Broad experience with library management systems and vendors (or experience in a related field such as Education) is desired but not required.

The Community

Douglas County has been nationally recognized as a great place to live, work and raise a family. In a May 2004 study, by the American City Business Journals (ACBJ), Douglas County ranked fourth in the nation for Quality of Life. ACBJ used 20 statistical indicators to rate living conditions in all 3,141 counties and independent cities across the nation. Douglas County ranked particularly well in the household income, homeownership rate and educational attainment categories. Combine those with our great location, excellent schools, wonderful weather and outstanding recreational and cultural opportunities and you will understand our high rank in the Quality of Life study.
