Job Description
Job Summary: The Library Cataloger provides access to library materials through classification and cataloging. This position will also help the Library Director with special projects as needed. Essential Functions: •Excellent customer service skills •Ability to work independently and with flexibility •Ability to classify and catalog library materials using Library World cataloging module, interface software and local automated system and equipment •Knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures such as AACR2, USMARC, MARC21 authority control issues and other bibliographic support systems •Ability to perform both copy cataloging and original cataloging as needed •Responsible for local database management, including development and maintenance of local authority files and holding deletions in both library catalog and OCLC database •Willingness to participate in staff meetings to discuss/resolve problems, discuss ideas for improvement, and keep updated on library plans and activities Other duties may be assigned and/or reassigned as needed ADA Statement: Each individual possesses different abilities to accomplish the same result. Education and/or Experience: •2-3 years working experience in cataloging services; preferably in an academic setting is required •Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution recommended Physical Demands: •No or very limited physical effort required •No or very limited exposure to physical risk Work Environment / Environmental Condition: •Work is normally performed in a typical interior / office work environmentThe Community
