Job Description

1. Oversees day-to-day operations of the library and manages expenditures of assigned operating budget. 2. Develops the short and long term plans of service for the branch with assistance of the District Director and in cooperation with District Management team. 3. Hires, trains and supervises staff and volunteers 4. Assists patrons in person and by phone, and works at the library service desk. Provides reader’s advisory, reference and research assistance, and referral information. 5. Collaborates with District selection team to build and maintain branch and District collections. 6. Assists with budget preparation, strategic planning, and goal setting for the branch. 7. Actively promotes the library through programming and outreach in the community. Takes an active role in the community by representing the library at local events, and with membership in organizations and associations. 8. Promotes a culture of excellent customer service. 9. Works actively with the branch’s Friends of the Library. 10. Demonstrates leadership in technology and trains staff in use of electronic resources and new technology. 11. Participates in fund raising and grant writing opportunities.

The Community

Delta County is located on the beautiful Western Slope of Colorado. The City of Delta was named the "Best Small Colorado Community for 2008". The city has beautiful views of Grand Mesa and surrounding mountains and is located between the larger cities of Grand Junction and Montrose. Delta has a newer hospital and recreation center and quick highway access to two national airports. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound in every direction with canyons, rivers and mountains. Featuring a sunny temperate climate, Delta County is known for wineries, organic fruits and vegetables, grass fed meats and a healthy lifestyle. The Delta Public Library serves the City of Delta and surrounding area in cooperation with four other libraries in the Library District. The original 1911 Carnegie library building was tastefully expanded in 1984 and 2005 and remains on the Colorado register for historic properties. Library use is growing and 2008 marked a 17% increase in circulation.
