Job Description

Position 1: Health Sciences Reference Librarian The successful Health Sciences Reference Librarian (HSRL) candidate will identify, create, provide, promote, and evaluate general and unique library reference services needed by library patrons. The HSRL will also coordinate the reference services weekly schedule. Position 2: Clinical Reference Librarian The successful Clinical Reference Librarian (CRL) candidate will identify, create, provide, promote and evaluate general and unique library reference services needed in particular by clinical professionals. The CRL will also provide database searches and support for AMC family practitioners affiliated with the Family Physicians Inquiries Network (FPIN) program. Major responsibilities of BOTH positions: •Collaborate with other librarians and staff concerning library programs and services. •Assist in developing policies, setting priorities, and recommending improvements to the overall provision of core and emerging reference services. •Provide core reference services both in person and by virtual means using online chat, email, and telephone. •Perform professional fee-based bibliographic literature searches using library databases, the web, and other resources. •Suggest, create, and teach library-related classes in cooperation with the library’s Education Department. •Participate in and assist with the development, implementation, coordination, promotion, and assessment of the library liaison program. •Monitor trends in health sciences librarianship such as evidence-based practice, Web 2.0 communication, and social networking technology. •Cultivate partnerships and collaborate with library and university personnel on projects including grants, papers, poster presentations, or other creative undertaking.

The UC Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) includes the School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine, College of Nursing, Colorado School of Public Health, Graduate School, and University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). Located at the crossroads of the AMC and the Colorado Science & Technology Park, the $35 million, state-of-the-art library opened in October 2007. Coordinating and providing access to information in support of learning, research, clinical care and service to the community, the library is the physical and digital hub of knowledge on the campus. The HSL provides the largest collection of health sciences information resources in Colorado. Required Qualifications: •Masters degree or higher from an ALA accredited library school, or foreign equivalent •Ability to search MEDLINE effectively and demonstrate an understanding of Medical Subject Headings •Knowledge of biomedical print materials and online information resources and databases •Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively in groups as both a team leader and a team member •Strong customer service orientation •Ability to work independently and be self-motivated •Excellent problem solving skills •Excellent oral and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications: •Experience providing virtual and face-to-face library reference services •Strong searching skills in health sciences and related information resources and tools •Experience teaching and developing real-time and asynchronous instructional sessions for adult learners. •Knowledge of the activities, duties and responsibilities in a library liaison program •Knowledge of evidence based health care and health informatics concepts and resources •One to five years post-master’s experience working in a health sciences, academic, research, life sciences, related-field special library, or previous experience in a health profession •Knowledge of social networking, mobile/smart phone and other emerging technologies and their use in libraries •Undergraduate or advanced degree in the health or basic sciences •Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals

Other Information: Salary level starts at $46,000 and is based on qualifications and experience. This is a non-tenure track faculty position with rank commensurate with experience.
