Job Description

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is located in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, near the University of Southern California. Founded in 1913, the museum has amassed some of the world's most significant collections of natural history specimens and cultural history materials, which are the subject of groundbreaking scientific and historical research and the basis for innovative exhibits. The Natural History Museum Foundation is seeking a dynamic and resourceful professional to lead its Research Library. The successful candidate will possess an ability to lead a revitalization of the library, thrive in a team setting, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and aggressively seek funding for library development. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President of Research and Collections, and consulting with a curatorial Library Committee, the Chief Librarian takes a leadership role in developing and monitoring the Library's strategic planning, budget, policies, and procedures. In support of the Museum's mission, and to satisfy the information needs of the museum's staff and patrons, the incumbent develops and manages the library collections, programs, and services, including the technological infrastructure necessary for their delivery and use. The incumbent manages all aspects of library operations including personnel, technology, purchasing, space and facilities, outreach and public relations, and is charged with identifying and pursuing sources of support through grants and donations to help fund improvements to the Library.
