Job Description

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Plan, organize, and direct activities of the Children’s and Teen Services section of the Library. Supervises public reference desk activities and serves at the Children’s and Teen reference desk providing direct services to patrons, using computerized databases, library resources or other tools. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff. Direct collection development of Children’s and Teen collection, preparing a collection development plan, selecting books and materials, and managing a portion of the library’s acquisitions budget. Assist and instruct patrons in the use of computer software programs and the Internet. Enhance or develop new programs and services. Schedule proper staff coverage of customer service desks. Participate in selection process to hire new staff members, and assist in budget and policy development. Direct use and development of information technology applications appropriate for assigned section. Maintain effective working relationships and respond to customer inquiries and complaints. Serve as a duty supervisor on a rotating schedule. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Primarily performed in standard office and library environment. Involves the ability to move throughout the building, reaching to access materials on shelves, light to moderate lifting/carrying, pulling, twisting, kneeling, squatting, and bending. Irregular work schedule.
