Job Description

Ability to supervise personnel; keep abreast of current library trends in library technical services. Ability to learn to operate equipment as required by the position; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and library patrons. Excellent administrative, secretarial and office skills required. Familiarity with personal computers and appropriate software required.  Provides efficient, courteous public service and presents a positive image of the library in attitude, appearance and performance of duties.  Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures for Adult Public Services.  Selects, trains and supervises staff to perform the work of circulation and reference.  Maintains statistical records and provides monthly reports.  Fills interlibrary loan requests for materials generated by patrons needing information.  Fills request for materials, which are received from other institutions.  Trains reference staff in the use of reference materials, the Internet, and on-line databases.  Makes administrative and supervisory decisions as necessary and appropriate.  Selects vendors to provide on-going subscription services for periodicals, serials, and on-line databases.  Responsible for collection development of adult reading area, and withdraws outdated and worn materials.  Determines which donated materials will be added to the collection.  Designs and publishes Library’s newsletter, fliers, press releases, and bookmarks.  Develops and implements adult and teen reading programs; by choosing the theme, planning programs, purchasing incentives, soliciting donations, interfacing with schools, and distributing publicity.  Develops and implements special programs, i.e. Poetry Contest and Scary Story Contest.  Researches reference questions posed by the public using knowledge of this library’s collection and information resources available on the web.  Determines the needs of the community for Federal and State tax publications and sees that they are met.  Attends job related meetings, workshops and training sessions.  Instruct patrons in their use of the computerized catalog and the library collection.  Insures that circulation procedures maintain patrons’ confidentiality.  Performs desk duties in the adult and children’s rooms, as needed.  Shelves library materials.  Other duties as assigned.

Security Public Library serves the communities of Security/Widefield (population 45,000) in southern El Paso County, Colorado. With a beautiful view of Pikes Peak, Security/Widefield prides itself on its small town atmosphere and strong sense of community. Set in a 59 square mile area, the largest populated unincorporated area in Colorado, Security/Widefield has all the advantages of being adjacent to Colorado Springs, a city of 500,000, and only an hour drive to Denver.
