Job Description

Position Title: Director of Library Services Position # 200170 Position Status: Exempt FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Dean of Liberal Arts Supervises: Exempt staff, classified staff, and work study or hourly students Basic Function: The person in this position provides overall leadership and management of the academic library operations on the Centretech and Lowry campuses. The librarian is responsible for acquisitions, maintenance of library materials and day-to-day operations; instructs individual students and classes on research and the evaluation of information sources; expands awareness of library resources; provides service to students and faculty; performs cataloging and circulation functions in the Autographics system; maintains the collection; hires, trains, and supervises student workers; assists staff at the library front desk. Additionally, the director has oversight of accessibility services and academic testing services which are housed within the library. Creativity, leadership ability and personal initiative are crucial to this position. This position will further develop the library services offered to the college community. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide academic research instruction, reference and circulation services: teach research methods to classes and individual students; provide instruction in the use of library catalogs, online databases and similar information resources including Internet research resources; assist students and faculty in accessing and using secured library research databases from off campus; provide circulation services. Build awareness of library resources: Find creative and effective ways to build and maintain awareness of research resources and services; identify and acquire new research resources; present library services to CCA students, faculty and staff members individually and in groups at both campuses; conduct workshops in information access and evaluation; distribute electronic and printed information about CCA’s information services; utilize faculty expertise in the selection of library materials that support the curriculum. Operate integrated library system: Perform cataloging, processing, and circulation functions using the Autographics library system; receive periodic training in the use of cataloging and circulation functions and receive training in other information technology functions that support the curriculum. Maintain the collection: Maintain a current, vital collection by reviewing and reporting the use of all library resources including databases, electronic books, special collections and reserves; maintain productive relationships with faculty members college wide to assure the applicability of the collection to the curriculum; keep circulation and other records; maintain a geographic information systems database; evaluate, select and deselect library information resources; hire, train, and supervise workers who may be assigned all or part of these functions. Maintain library facilities: Design resources, furnishings and fixtures to create and maintain an efficient, inviting library environment; schedule hours of operation. Supervision: Supervise library staff and accessibility services staff. Assist library staff: Perform desk functions depending on library hours and availability of students and staff members; some irregular hours on occasion are necessary. Administer library budgets: efficiently utilize library budgets for acquisitions, materials maintenance, and library operations. Other duties as assigned. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the individual must possess the ability to effectively communicate, concentrate, analyze data, pay attention to detail, retain learned knowledge, instruct/teach demonstrate strong organizational skills and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
