Job Description

1. Works on the public service desks providing reference service to walk-ins, over the phone, via email, and instant messaging 2. Assists and instructs patrons through material and on-line searches, computer software applications, reference/in-depth research, community referrals, and outside sources/collections 3. Provides in-depth assistance and information about the library’s services and procedures 4. Searches a variety of reference resources 5. Provides readers’ advisory services 6. Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions 7. Promotes library services through tours, demonstrations, talks, and displays 8. Uses computers, printers, microform machines, TTD, fax, CD ROM and other business machines 9. Assess patron needs and provide pertinent materials in an organized fashion (including bibliographies, fact sheets, pathfinders, etc.) 10. Serves as the “person in charge” in the absence of the Adult Services Manager/Supervisor 11. May direct merchandising activities (displays, bulletin boards, etc.) 12. May provide support and direction for Information Services Specialists who maintain on-line community databases 13. Teaches computer classes to the public and PPLD staff 14. Manages specialized services: Law Library; Is responsible for coordinating the law library and materials for our patrons, attorneys, and paralegal students. 15. Closely coordinates with the El Paso County Bar Association and Collection Management on the collection budget, ordering titles, and weeding the collection. 16. Coordinates the workload of the El Paso County Bar Association’s filing clerk who updates the collection, including verifying and signing the clerk’s timesheet. 17. Works with Westlaw representative to offer Continuing Legal Education training to local attorneys. 18. Is an active member of Pikes Peak Community College’s Paralegal Advisory Committee. 19. Submits a law library column to the monthly El Paso Bar Association’s newsletter 20. Works at the law library’s public desks about 20 – 25 hours per week 21. Teaches legal research class to PPLD staff as part of “Finding Info @ Our Library” program. 22. Manages collection materials for a specific target group 23. Serves as a liaison with community groups and provides outreach to communicate services and programs 24. Staffs “AskColorado” and IMReference desks. 25. May organize and conduct projects related to departmental goals and needs 26. Performs other related duties as assigned

Ability to research and gather information on trends and resources in the library field 14. Advanced proficiency on computer applications 15. Ability to work as an effective team member, have a "whatever it takes" work ethic, and have an excellent customer service attitude
