Job Description

The purpose of the Temporary Metadata Specialist position is to assist in the creation, delivery, preservation and ongoing support of digital content for the Regis University Digital Repository (RUDR). Working under the guidance of the Electronic Services Librarian, the Metadata Specialist will facilitate online description, storage, and access to academic content from the University including online theses/final projects, Regis College honors theses, learning objects, and special collections from the Regis Library archives. The Metadata Specialist uploads digital files, images, videos and other digitized materials into RUDR; develops appropriate metadata records using established metadata protocols; and coordinates with the Regis University Electronic Services Librarian to develop project workflows. This person works collaboratively with the Regis University Archivist and Media Services Librarian to digitize and upload files, images, videos and other materials from the Richard R. Truly Collection into the digital repository. This position creates metadata records describing digitized content. Under the guidance of the Regis University Archivist, the successful candidate will work to prioritize materials selected for the digital repository so that funding is used effectively.

Additional Info & Requirements

This temporary position will end on 02/28/2011.A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited program, with course work in metadata/cataloging or equivalent professional education required. Successful candidates will have demonstrated technical proficiency in the tools and technologies related to digital repositories and digital collection management; working knowledge of metadata standards including MODS, METS and Dublin Core; and excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
