Job Description

The Kraemer Family Library seeks applications from energetic, innovative librarians for a 30 hours/week reference librarian position. As a member of the Reference department and the User Services team, this position is responsible for providing reference assistance at a general reference desk 10-12 hours/week, bibliographic instruction, collection development and liaison with selected academic departments, participation in library policy formulation, and university and professional service.

Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate for this position will be appointed as a 75% time (30 hours/week /12 month) nontenure-track faculty member. Initial appointment will be at the Instructor level. Starting salary range is $31,000-35,000, depending upon qualifications. Benefits include 11 days of sick leave, 16.5 days of vacation, 10 paid holidays per year, University group health care plan, group life insurance, and TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity.• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school • Experience, coursework or demonstrated awareness of reference work and library instruction • Flexibility in adapting to change • Initiative and demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively • Excellent oral and written communication skills Desired Qualifications: *Post-MLS library experience in an academic setting, particularly reference or library instruction *Collection development experience *Web page development ability

The Community

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was established in 1965. The student population of 8500 consists primarily of commuter students with campus housing available for 900 students. Doctoral degrees are offered in engineering, computer science, psychology, educational leadership, and nursing practice. The campus also has graduate programs in business, public administration, and a variety of arts and sciences areas. The city of Colorado Springs, located at the foot of Pikes Peak, has a population of approximately 500,000 with tourism, high technology, manufacturing, sports and the military ranking as the key industries within the community. Located 70 miles south of Denver, Colorado Springs offers a wide variety of leisure and educational activities including sports, parks, symphony, local theater groups, museums, and several institutions of higher education.
