Job Description

Opportunity is Knocking! Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to work for Colorado’s Library of the Year! Join Pueblo City County Library District’s team of professionals as the Supervising Librarian for the Reference and Readers’ Advisory Department. This position develops, coordinates and delivers library services, programs and resources designed to interest adults. The position is responsible for oversight of adult services, the adult public access computers, the Hispanic Resource Center, electronic and digital resources, and inter-library loan services including the supervision of 18 staff members at the Rawlings Library. The Supervising Librarian also works closely with Technical Services and the Collection Development department to develop and maintain a vital and fresh collection of Rawlings Library adult materials including books, videos, audios, online services and periodicals. This is a position that works closely with the community in providing government documents and services, adult learning opportunities and who will work closely with the District’s Grant Writer to secure funding for programs and resources that benefit PCCLD. Is this the opportunity for you? The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional librarian with a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association. This person will have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible library experience and will also have a minimum of one year supervisory experience including staff selection, development, scheduling, appraisals and employee relations. Our choice candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, finely-tuned active listening skills and problem solving skills. The desire to seek, serve and make connections with all library staff, community members, and customers is essential. Leadership capabilities including budget development, analysis and statistical reporting are key skills that will make the person in this position successful.

Additional Info & Requirements

• Advanced level of computer skills including knowledge of library public-access computers and the internet, researching techniques, Microsoft Office suite, databases, downloadable materials and knowledge of technology trends in libraries. Ability to learn a variety of software programs and train others in technology and electronic resource use. • Excellent planning and program presentation skills including the ability to stimulate the interest of adult readers in library resources. • Ability to provide positive and creative leadership to non-exempt and exempt level staff in a contemporary library environment. • Managerial skills with the ability to demonstrate a willingness to contribute ideas, maintain flexibility, and support changes within the organization. • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to maintain good working relationships with library staff and customers; ability to handle difficult communications; ability to exercise diplomacy, professionalism and confidentiality as a representative of the library. • Ability to conduct reference interviews, to analyze requests and to apply research skills to locate specialized technical information or provide patrons with alternative sources. Literary knowledge and skills in collection development with in-depth understanding of reader interest levels, books, and authors.
