Job Description

Position Title: Director of Library Services Position # 200170 Position Status: Exempt FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: Dean of Liberal Arts Supervises: Exempt staff, classified staff, and work study or hourly students Basic Function: The Community College of Aurora is a dynamic institution now developing new academic programs and services to meet the needs of a diverse and growing student population. In addition to the usual responsibilities of library director, the successful candidate for this position will develop and implement innovative approaches to library services. The candidate will be creative, innovative, energetic and well-versed in the operations of a leading-edge, technology-rich library. A high-tech/high-touch approach is preferred. We are developing a 21st century library and we are looking for someone to lead its development. Duties and Responsibilities: Lead the development of an up-to-date, technology-based library learning center: review and revise information access systems to assure the availability of the most current technologies and information resources; teach research methods to faculty members and students including the use of library catalogs, online databases and similar resources. Develop creative and effective ways to build and maintain awareness of research resources: identify and acquire new research resources; conduct workshops in information access and evaluation; publicize CCA’s information services; collaborate with the faculty to select resources that support the curriculum. Operate an integrated library system: implement use of the Autographics system for cataloging and circulation including a digital collections module; receive ongoing cataloging and circulation training; train library staff in the operation of the integrated library system. Utilize the full range of information retrieval systems: develop systems for online and wireless access to information; assure the applicability of retrieval systems to the curriculum; maintain a geographic information systems database. Administer library budgets: efficiently utilize library budgets for acquisitions, materials maintenance, and library operations. Other duties as assigned. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the individual must possess the ability to effectively communicate, concentrate, analyze data, pay attention to detail, retain learned knowledge, instruct/teach demonstrate strong organizational skills and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.

Salary: This is a full-time, 12-month appointment. Beginning salary range is mid $40s to low $60s. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan.
