Job Description

Are you a librarian with a passion for serving at-risk youth – and you’re not afraid to say so? Do you read teen novels in your free time – then recommend them to all your friends and neighbors? Is negotiating with jobbers, fixing technical problems, training staff, keeping detailed records, and managing a budget your idea of a good time? Do you have a flair for effortlessly shifting between team work and flying solo? And have you ever wondered if, maybe, you really belong in prison? If you answered yes to these questions, you may be the State Library’s next Youth Institutions and Acquisitions Consultant! The Colorado State Library is seeking a self-motivated professional to join an ambitious team of librarians dedicated to building and sustaining the best institutional libraries in the nation. Under the direction of the state Institutional Library Development Coordinator: develop and provide staff training and collection management expertise, select and acquire age-appropriate library materials, and advocate for procedures and standards for 11 Division of Youth Corrections libraries; develop, manage, and reconcile the unit’s library materials budget; deliver comprehensive acquisitions services for 41 state institutional libraries; and provide technical assistance to institutional library staff statewide.
