Job Description

Job Responsibilities: This full-time classified IT Professional I position is responsible for assisting faculty, staff and students in solving technical problems concerning hardware and software within the library. Specific duties include maintaining, installing, repairing and configuring computer hardware; detecting, analyzing and determining solutions to a wide variety of hardware problems including troubleshooting hardware conflicts, issues with wireless networks and devices, and problems with peripherals, i.e. printers, scanner, etc; creating and maintaining documents; interviewing, observing and advising clients on resolving complaints and problems; tracking IT department Help Desk activities; installing and upgrading software for staff and public workstations; assisting with the testing of new software; performing software check-ups on workstations; monitoring library servers; customizing directory structure, login scripts and drive mapping; granting rights to users and groups and limiting access to server file systems; installing and troubleshooting IT issued encryption software on laptops and mobile devices; installing antivirus, anti-malware, and hard drive restoration software; coordinating custom library e-mail addresses, distribution lists and resource requests; providing AV support; and overseeing the work activities of work-study students. This position will work with Window profiles of both public and staff workstations. This position must maintain knowledge of designated general purpose office and photo editing software, designed instructional software, as well as new software applications and technology trends.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience setting up, troubleshooting and repairing Audio-Visual equipment, i.e. projectors, flat screens, recording devices, audio equipment, etc. Experience troubleshooting and fixing computer hardware and software which includes workstations, laptops, printers, scanners, mobile devices and other technical devices. Experience with desktop applications for Windows including Microsoft Office. Experience with Windows Server 2003 and Active Directory Experience troubleshooting and repairing computer hardware, both PC and Macintosh Experience providing technical assistance and end-user support to faculty, staff and students in a higher education setting and/or medical research library environment. Experience with Innovative Interfaces integrated library systems such as tape drives, scanners, public pay-for-printing system, hard drive security systems, content management systems for library web authors, and electronic cataloging interfaces Experience with backup software and recovery procedures as they apply to physical and virtual computer systems Competencies: Experience that demonstrates strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds which also includes experience working with students, staff, and faculty, within a higher education and/or academic medical library environment. Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Must possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates problem solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to take direction and use independent judgment to coordinate and meet multiple deadlines. Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
