Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers, individually and in groups. Plans, schedules and implements group visits for children from birth through middle school in the library and in external locations. Provides services and outreach activities designed to educate and promote library usage with emphasis on children’s services. Serves customers of all ages in a branch dedicated to bringing library services to ethnically, linguistically and economically diverse children. Provides outreach to children between the ages of 0-5 years and creates programming for youth during out of school time. Oversees library operations as assigned. Assists customers in all circulation activities and uses informed judgment following rules and procedures. Works cooperatively with other branch staff as well as all of Denver Public Library and is expected to support all aspects of library service to the citizens of Denver. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of training and development practices and ability to relate to the needs of children beginning at birth and continuing. Knowledge of children’s literature, and the ability to advise reader’s of all ages. Knowledge of library operations and research resources to be able to assist customers as needed Skill in communicating and establishing effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, organizations, and the public. Skill in designing, preparing, and implementing professional instruction and programs such as teacher/parent literacy training. Skill in reading aloud clearly, concisely and with expression. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to research and compile information. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and make decisions to solve problems and meet organizational objectives. Ability to make appropriate choices of materials for programming and outreach. Spanish language skills a plus. Experience: Two years of experience teaching or presenting information in a variety of situations and settings. Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field. General computer literacy, including experiences with Internet and database searching.Additional Info & Requirements
