Job Description

The Auraria Library, serving the University of Colorado at Denver, Downtown Denver Campus; Metropolitan State College of Denver; and the Community College of Denver, seeks a dynamic, energetic, and innovative individual to serve as Programmer in the Technology Strategies and Learning Spaces unit. Reporting to the Associate Director for Technology Strategies and Learning Spaces, the Programmer is the expert in computer programming and application development. Therefore, the person in this position must have working knowledge of programming languages and database design. This position is responsible for working on applications that will improve services to our users and increase staff efficiency. Job Responsibilities: *Act as a knowledge leader in the specification, architecture and deployment of web-based services that support the academic and administrative missions of the Auraria Library. *Work with end users, library staff, technical staff and vendors on web related technical issues, service requests and problem resolution. *Explore and develop opportunities to integrate library resources and services into information applications. *Provides technical support for content management systems such as Drupal. *Create and integrate web-based personalization tools such as applet development, mobile applications and Google gadgets. *Provide training when necessary to library staff. *Initiate effective communication among project team members and co-workers.

The ability to focus on our goal of supporting academic achievement and an understanding of the research process. *L/Unix Administration skills, at least as they apply to a Drupal or similar CMS installation. *Knowledge of web authentication *Knowledge of VBScript *One (1) or more years of experience developing and coding interactive web applications using PHP, Python, Ruby, Perl, HTML, XML, CSS, SQL, JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX, and/or other common tools. Note: many of these tools and languages are similar so solid knowledge of a few of these may suffice. PHP is the most important scripting language. *Education: An undergraduate or graduate degree in a computer, library or information science related field or equivalent experience or combination. The experience must be scripting/PHP/database/programming/open source CMS related. The library science degree should include technical coursework. *One (1) or more years of experience in the design and manipulation of relational databases. Demonstrated proficiency in developing and maintaining database-driven web applications. Experience with service-oriented architecture and with designing and implementing web services. At least one (1) year of experience with Drupal (or a very similar CMS) which will be demonstrated by inspection of work done and references.
