Job Description

LIBRARIAN/CIRCULATION DESK SUPPORT Do you have experience running a circulation desk in a library setting? Do you enjoy helping people? Would you be interested in working in a federal agency library assisting Scientists? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, then look no further because we have the job for you! Out client is a federal agency library (“The Library”) located in Lakewood, CO. They are in need of a Librarian to provide circulation desk support to patrons, agency Scientists, and other federal agencies. The Library provides resources for scientific investigations and its multi-disciplinary collection provides access to geographical, technical, and historical literature in paper and electronic formats for academia, industry, and the general public. The Library is one of the world’s largest and leading libraries in the earth and natural sciences. This particular branch is the second largest library in a network 24 Libraries. REQUIREMENTS:  Previous library work experience or training.  Ability to stand for long periods of time; stoop and bend; and lift heavy books.  Possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills.  Must be organized and have attention to detail.  If selected for this work, must be able to pass a background investigation. RESPONSIBILITIES:  Monitor the Circulation Desk for patrons requiring assistance. Be accessible and responsive to patrons by providing quality customer service in an efficient and timely manner.  Maintain Library circulation records by charging and discharging items on the Horizon computer system; entering holds and recalls; notifying patrons of material received; running circulation desk statistics as needed; refreshing tally sheets for monthly statistics; and performing other circulation functions.  Assist patrons with photocopiers and microfilm reader.  Maintain library borrower records in the Horizon system and card file by interviewing patrons to determine their eligibility for the various categories of borrower privileges, explaining extent of the privileges to the borrower, entering data, updating data as necessary, and eliminating records when appropriate. Review status of borrowing accounts for employee departures and responds to clearance requests.  Resolve problems involving overdue and lost materials. Alert supervisor to potential library issues and provide input on improving the library’s circulation function.  Work as a team member in processing and managing e-mail workflows associated with the library’s system for receiving and delivering electronic journal articles and scanned documents.  Provide interlibrary lending and borrowing services using the OCLC ILL subsystem to search holdings, verify references, and initiate/respond to requests.  Retrieve items from circulating collection requested by agency patrons and through interlibrary loan; copy or scan requested book or journal articles; and mail or e-mail articles and books.  Shelve monographs and journals; re-file maps; shift items in the book stacks or map files as necessary; and add books ends and shelf organizers as necessary for conservation of materials.  Prepare materials for mailing and sort incoming mail.  Answer general questions from users concerning location of call numbers and materials available in the Library.  Assist in library materials processing by barcoding materials, labeling items, preparing item records, checking in journal issues, and summarizing journal holdings. GENERAL INFORMATION:  All work is performed in the Library in Lakewood, CO.  Duty hours are 7:45AM-4:15PM (includes a ½ hour lunch break), Monday-Friday (excepting all federal holidays).  If selected for this work, you will be hired by ETI as a W2 employee.  A comprehensive benefits package is available.  Compensation will commensurate with experience.
