Job Description

The earth sciences/map librarian position is a one-year temporary position in the Jerry Crail Johnson Earth Sciences & Map Library. The library houses collections in all aspects of the earth sciences and map and geospatial data collections. Duties include general and specialized reference, bibliographic instruction in person and online, and website maintenance and design. Additional responsibilities may include collection development and a special project for the duration of the temporary assignment. Appointment and Salary: This position holds the rank of lecturer and reports to the acting faculty director of the Earth Sciences and Map Library for the first six months and for the remaining six months, in the absence of the acting faculty director, to the Associate Director for Public Services. Salary is $36,000. University group health care plan benefits are included.

Requirements: * Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school by December 2010 * Experience and/or coursework with library instruction * Coursework or experience with emerging educational and web technologies * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively * Strong interpersonal skills and public service orientation * Effective oral and written communication skills Desirable Qualifications: * One or more years of experience in providing reference and instruction in an academic library * Experience providing earth sciences reference services and instruction * Experience providing map and geospatial data reference services and instruction * Experience with classroom teaching and online instruction * Demonstrated ability to apply innovative information technologies for educational purposes * Proficiency with GIS * Experience with digitization of library materials
