The Community

Meeteetse (population 346) is an authentic western town in northwestern Wyoming located 32 miles south of Cody. It sits along the banks of the Greybull River in the scenic Big Horn Basin about 80 miles southeast of Yellowstone National Park and 136 miles west of the Big Horn Mountains. Founded in the 1890s, the word Meeteetse is an old Shoshone Indian word for "meeting place." The town retains much of its original character with wooden boardwalks, wooden watering troughs, hitching rails and many turn of the century buildings. A small, close knit community, the town has a rich ranching heritage.
