Job Description

Position Description: Part-time librarian positions will provide reference services, oversee Circulation Level II students, and open and close library building during assigned shifts which will be mostly evenings and/or weekends. Responsibilities: As part of the Public Services Department, this position will participate in projects as defined by the department and perform the following duties: 1. Provide reference services, primarily during nights and weekends. • Provide one-on-one assistance at reference desk • Provide virtual reference services • Perform specialized database searching as needed • Assist with data gathering and statistics as needed • Assist with other reference duties as assigned • Oversee Reference work-study students during assigned shifts • Carry out weekend and evening procedures when integrated library system or campus network is down. • Give input and suggestions for improvement of departmental policies and procedures 2. Oversee circulation services, primarily during nights and weekends. • Oversee Circulation Level II Students to ensure that circulation and reserve services are provided in accord with the department’s policies and procedures • Serve as back-up for Level II Students, answering questions or solving problems as necessary • Mediate any problems that may arise with patrons at the circulation desk if needed • Assist with managing the processing of daily circulation notices from integrated library system as needed • Assist with creation of electronic reserves course sites and materials as needed • Coordinate scheduled printing of Closed Stack Request List and retrieval of requested items by student workers • Give input and suggestions for improvement of departmental policies and procedures • Assist with other circulation duties as assigned 3. Serve as building supervisor during assigned reference shifts. • Oversee opening and closing building using proper procedures • Maintain building security, in accordance with Library policies and procedures
