Job Description

Primary duties include: • Provide reference, referral, research and reader's advisory assistance to all ages of patrons in person and on the telephone • Participate in annual activities such as tax season and summer reading programs • Participate in staff meetings, committee and other meetings and task forces, including serving as a member of the Teen Advocates Round Table Secondary duties include: • Review, evaluate and recommend materials for purchase and withdrawal from the collection with special emphasis on the management of young adult materials • Initiate and develop ongoing programming for adults and young adults • Lead a Teen Advisory Board • Work with community partners that focus on young adults to present programs and other services outside of the library • Supervise daily room operations and be responsible for the general appearance and safety of the young adult area This position reports to the Head of Adult Information Services.

Additional Info & Requirements

Must be flexible to work some evenings, weekends, and minor holidays. The successful candidate will have familiarity with Web 2.0 and social networking concepts and uses in library settings.

Located in spacious Clement Park in southeast Jefferson County just outside Denver, Columbine Library is a lively, active facility serving a population of about 99,500 suburban families and business professionals. The staff of 23 provides reference services for children and adults, access to Jefferson County’s extensive Online Library, about 185,000 items on library shelves, and numerous free programs for all ages, including story times for children. Small groups and students from the area’s excellent public schools like the library’s two study rooms, and the large meeting room is a favorite location for community meetings. Columbine draws patrons from more than 300 daycare providers and 25 public schools. Patrons using the extensive children’s collection enjoy a mural created by children’s book author and illustrator Janet Stevens. The adult area offers peaceful views of the Rocky Mountains and a neighboring lake. Chatfield Reservoir is close by for boating and fishing, and residents enjoy Jefferson County’s extensive hiking trails in the area.
