Job Description

As a member of the Public Services Department, this position will participate in projects as defined by the department. The major job responsibilities for this position include the following: 1. Manage the library’s instruction program, including: • developing goals, strategies, and curricula for advancing the program. • developing and implementing student learning outcomes and appropriate assessment tools to measure student success. • working with faculty to develop collaborative teaching and learning projects. • educating faculty, staff, and students about the program. 2. Oversee daily operations of the library’s instruction program, including: • contacting academic departments to coordinate library instruction offerings, • scheduling all library instruction classes, • assigning library faculty to teach appropriate classes, • providing support and training for library faculty who teach, • maintaining statistics on library instruction classes, • maintaining schedule for library instruction classroom, • creating and maintaining print and online instructional materials, • teach additional classes not assigned to library faculty. 3. Work closely with the Instructional Technology Librarian to enhance the library’s instruction program, by: • helping to develop web based instructional tools that support the established goals for instruction, • helping to ensure that instructional tools are based on appropriate, sustainable, technology and focus on active learning, 4. Provide reference and instruction services, including some nights and weekends. • Provide one-on-one assistance at reference desk. • Provide virtual reference services as scheduled. • Perform specialized database searching as needed. • Teach courses for library instruction program including, but not limited to, classes in the liaison area. 5. Serve as liaison to one or more academic departments, helping to coordinate collection management and instruction for the assigned subject areas. 6. Perform sustained inquiry into one’s discipline leading to practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly output. 7. Serve the Library, the University, and the Profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.

Required:  Masters in Library Science (M.L.S.) or equivalent. Preferred:  Teaching/Library Instruction experience.  Experience in an academic library.  Experience developing and administering library instruction program.
