Job Description
DEFINITION: Provide support for library cataloging functions for all types of library materials and technical assistance to library users in the public computer labs. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Catalog library print and non-print materials. Create and update bibliographic records. Serve at the public reference desk (adult computer lab), interview patrons by telephone and in person. Assist and instruct patrons in the use of computer software programs and the Internet. Locate information in assigned area using computerized databases and library tools.Additional Info & Requirements
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Requires the ability to move around the building and to access materials on shelves. Work requires light lifting/carrying, standing, walking, bending and sufficient visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment. Work requires repetitive motion to enter data on keyboard. Requires skills in working independently as well as with a group and communicating effectively with co-workers and a public of diverse backgrounds.QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university and two years of clerical and/or technical experience in a public library. Knowledge of routine procedures of public libraries. Knowledge of AACR2 and/or RDA cataloging rules desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Internet searching and popular web browsers required. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency preferred. Ability to provide assistance and deal courteously and tactfully with library patrons.
