Job Description

Shelves and files all Library material including books, periodicals, audio/visual material, pictures and pamphlets. Keeps the Library orderly and clean and keeps all materials efficiently arranged so that patrons and staff have easy access to the materials and information. Reviews shelves to ensure books are in correct place. Straightens material to keep information accessible, neat, clean, and orderly. Places current magazines in plastic covers for public use and files back issues. Responds to the needs of customers and other employees. Assists patrons in locating material and with directional questions. Assists with circulation duties including registration, issuing lost or replacement library cards, processing books, book request, and collecting fines as required. Assists circulation staff in the enforcement of Library policies. Assists in the physical discarding process of books weeded from the collection and assists in processing gift books. Attends to the closing duties which include making sure patrons are out of the building, turning off switches, locking office doors, and straightening common areas. Maintains an orderly newspaper collection. Empties outside book drops throughout the day and evening. Works with volunteers. Maintains supply inventory for work area. Performs other duties as assigned and required.

Additional Info & Requirements

Requires basic knowledge of Library procedures, Dewey Decimal System, and applications software for Windows environment - Microsoft Office preferred. Must have knowledge of standard office equipment including copiers, computers, and fax machines. Basic computer skills needed to use library catalog and email. Strong customer service skills needed to interact with the patrons. Project management skills needed to organize magazines yearly. Basic math skills needed to give proper change to patrons. Strong skills needed to sort materials by use of Dewey Decimal System.Requires a flexible schedule. Candidate must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends. Preference given to candidates with library and or bookstore experience.
