Job Description

Responsible for the overall operations of the Mesa State College Library by planning, developing, coordinating and implementing policy and the Library component of the Academic Master Plan. Supervises Library staff, facilitates maintenance and growth of current scholarly resources, manages collections and archives policies, prepares the Library annual budget request and manages the allocated resources. Responsible for the operations of the Library, including administration, reference, circulation, instruction, acquisitions, technical services, and inter-library loan/document delivery. •Provides positive leadership to library professional and paraprofessional staff, as well as student workers. •Coordinates efforts to build all aspects of collection development, including negotiating with vendors for online resources. Oversees the development of the Library’s web pages. •Prepares the Library budget, including notifying the academic departments of the book budget distribution; oversees budget expenditures. Ensures library support for professional and institutional accreditation process by providing for the preparation of library analysis for accreditation. Guides library participation in program reviews and curriculum development. •Develops policies and administers the Library Strategic Plan and the portion of the Academic Master Plan that involves the Library. Oversees library assessment activities. •Oversees technological resources, including selection of online catalog, databases and electronic books, journals and media. •Works with campus organizations to inform the community about issues involving the Library. Plans, directs or assists with special projects involving library promotion and outreach activities and provides information on library activities, facilities, policies and services. •Participates in professional activities which increase knowledge and expertise and promote a positive image of the college. •Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director directly supervises the Head of Public Services Librarian, Head of Special Collections and Archives, Bibliographic Instruction Coordinator, Head of Technical Services and Government Documents, and Administrative Support Staff.
