Job Description

Under the general supervision of Reference Division Librarians, to assist Library patrons with information needs by using reference tools and procedures, including print and electronic sources, and to perform related duties as required. 1. Provides reference, research and technology assistance to library patrons and staff, especially in the areas of starting a business, company/industry research and investing; assists patrons with circulation and informational needs. 2. Instructs patrons and staff in Library procedures and use of Library materials, including Library databases. 3. Understands and uses subscription databases, book collections and other online resources in search of materials that meet the user's needs. Instructs library patrons in the use of Library resources in class room and one-one training sessions. 4. Participates in collection development including but not limited to Reference, nonfiction and fiction collections, especially investment, business and social science areas, including selecting and ordering new materials. 5. Communicates professionally and provides excellent customer service in person, on the telephone, or computer to conduct Library business as necessary. 6. Develops and designs marketing tools, services and strategies focused on reaching the Boulder community. Includes designing signage, brochures, flyers and editing various social media tools e.g. Facebook. 7. Performs clerical duties and handles some financial transactions. 8. Operates and troubleshoots office and library equipment including, but not limited to photocopiers, facsimile machines, microfilm/fiche readers, printers, digital cameras, eBook readers, smart phones, computers and projectors. 9. Other: • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city. • Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property. • Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and department policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies. Generally duties are listed from most to least critical or time consuming.

Additional Info & Requirements

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience and at least two years library experience or experience in reference services. Interest, desire, and ability to communicate courteously and effectively with and provide services to others, including the public, both in person and by telephone. Excellent interpersonal and technology skills. Willingness to take direction and learn a variety of tasks. Good organizational skills. Well-developed keyboard skills. Familiarity with personal computers and MS Office software e.g. Outlook, Word and Excel, Power Point. Adaptability and the desire to learn new resources quickly. Experience with data entry or electronic systems. Ability to work under minimal supervision. Willingness and flexibility to work a schedule that will include evenings and weekends. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – In addition to the required minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree with coursework in Business, Computer Science or Educational Technology. Experience with library subscription databases and Innovative Interfaces, Inc. automated system. Experience with Prospector, or other similar InnReach borrowing system. Knowledge of collection development. Ability to use current technology tools such as: downloadable media, Facebook and photo editing softwares. Demonstrated ability to communicate in at least one language other than English, preferably Spanish.
