Job Description

The Library Assistant II is responsible for procedures related to Circulation and Reserves. The position requires competence in various computer systems, including Innovative Interfaces and Ares. Provides high standards of customer service and monitors and safeguards aspects of copyright law related to reserve materials. The Library Assistant II assists with the implementation of automated workflow, instruction, and maintenance of in-house reserves and e-reserves systems; processes adjustments for fees of overdue and lost items; generates monthly statistical reports for Access Services; and participates in the training of library assistants in Access Services. This position assists with the recruitment, training and supervision of 30 student assistants; produces lists of searchable items in order to maintain an accurate collection; participates in the daily tasks and operations of Access Services; and provides oversight of the library in the absence of the Dean, Access Services Manager and Reference Librarian. This person will be required to participate in extended hours during mid-terms and finals. This position screens and answers or refers inquiries both in person, email and phone as appropriate; assists patrons with reference questions when a librarian is busy or not on duty; insures patron safety by identifying emergency situations and notifying authorities, patrons and/or clearing of the building; open and closes the library; handles all cash transactions; and setting room and building alarms and clearing the building at closing.
