Job Description

Basic Functions: The person in this position instructs classes on information access and evaluation; provides individual information access services to students, faculty, and others; and expands awareness of CCA, Aurora Public Library (APL) and other library, electronic and/or other information resources. This person also works with APL staff to provide and promote APL library services to students and faculty; performs limited cataloging and circulation functions in APL’s integrated library system; maintains the Instructional Resource Center (IRC) materials collection; hires, trains, and supervises student workers; and assists Learning Resource Center (LRC) staff at the LRC front desk. This position is the only library professional assigned to the Instructional Resource Center/Library, and therefore, must be able to work independently. Creativity, leadership ability and personal initiative are crucial to this position. This position will further develop the library services offered to the college community. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Provide class instruction, individual reference and circulation services: Instruct information access classes at both Lowry and CentreTech campuses; provide information access services and instruction in the use of library catalogs, online databases, and similar information resources as well as Internet research resources to individual students, faculty and others. Assist students and faculty in accessing and using secured library research databases from off campus. Provide circulation services in the IRC. Build awareness of library and electronic resources: Find creative and effective ways to build and maintain awareness of electronic, CCA and APL research resources and services; meet with CCA students, faculty and staff members individually and in groups, at both campuses; identify other available research resources; conduct workshops in information access and evaluation; distribute electronic and printed information about CCA’s information services; and use faculty participation for the selection of library materials that support the curriculum. Operate integrated library system: Perform limited cataloging, processing, and circulation functions using the APL integrated library system; receive periodic training in the use of limited cataloging and circulation functions of this system. Maintain IRC collection: Maintain materials housed in the IRC by shelving, shifting, reorganizing as necessary, and keeping circulation and other records for materials in the IRC’s book, audio-visual, and periodical collections. Hire, train, and supervise student workers who may be assigned all or part of these functions. Evaluates, selects and deselects library information resources. Administer the library services budget. Work with APL staff: Work with APL staff to build and maintain awareness among CCA students and faculty of APL library services and research resources available to CCA students and faculty; help arrange class tours of APL as requested; coordinate with APL staff on reference services matters; keep APL staff aware of needs of CCA students and faculty. Assist LRC staff: Perform LRC desk functions for periods of time depending on LRC hours and availability of LRC student and regular staff; some irregular hours on occasion are necessary. Other duties as assigned.

CCA is interviewing for a challenging, full-time position in CCA’s Instructional Resource Center in Aurora, Colorado. This position is for a Digital Librarian who can provide leadership and vision with regard to faculty and student use of technology for teaching, learning and research. This position requires familiarity with the plurality of uses and users of information technologies, services, systems and products, as well as the diversity of goals and objectives among users of information systems. This position will provide “cyber” library and information science expertise and training to the faculty, staff and students at CCA’s Lowry and CentreTech campuses. Required Qualifications: MLS, MLIS, or equivalent ALA-accredited degree, with computer/information science expertise and experience Minimum of two years experience, preferably working with electronic libraries or a related context Understanding of digital formats and metadata standards Knowledge of access and navigation tools and approaches Knowledge of a variety of electronic and print references resources Must work well with a variety of people and cultures Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills Self-motivated, high energy and ability to multi-task Must be able to work irregular hours on occasion Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching or training information access skills Experience using Microsoft Office applications Experience providing library services in a community college setting Web design and maintenance experience
