Job Description

Job title: Technology Services Librarian Salary: $35,000-$45,000 annually, plus salaried benefits Job type: Full-time Hours: 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; 1 evening per week; occasional Saturdays for special events Job description: You are the computer guru who staff and library users rely on for questions large and small. Troubleshooter is your middle name. You are the tech wizard who finds delight in issues and opportunities. You are an educator and a problem-solver. As the Technology Services Librarian, you will do all that you can to provide frustration-free technology experiences to the library community. You love working with computers just as much as you love working with people. Your work will include the following: • Administer the public and staff computer networks; install, configure, and maintain software • Diagnose hardware and software problems and implement solutions • Provide support for computer applications and manages the Local Area Network, including 30 computers and peripherals such as printers, network switches and routers, Wi-Fi access points, scanners, digital cameras, personal data devices, etc. • Evaluate and recommend acquisition of electronic resources, equipment and software • Coordinate the library’s participation in emerging technologies • Develop and implement training programs and documentation to instruct staff and users in a variety of technological skills and services • Utilize library website as well as other conduits of library information sharing (e.g. social media) • Participate in the formulation of policy and develop procedures related to information technology • Interpret policy and explain procedure to the public • Manage the laptop checkout service and provide support and training as needed • Maintain statistics related to technology • Perform copy and original cataloging for library materials (using KOHA, an open source ILS) • Serve as a reference librarian and provide general library services, approximately 40% of the time, as needed • Perform as a flexible team player in the daily circus of public library work What you have to offer: • A Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an ALA accredited program and/or a graduate degree in a relevant field • Experience working in a library setting with computers • An enthusiastic, collegial, and friendly attitude and talent for taking initiative • Computer experience, including Windows-based computers operating in a networked environment, desktop applications (MS Office), and use of system management tools for workstation problem-solving and maintenance • Specialized subject knowledge or skills developed through education and/or work experience, where appropriate. As Technology Services Librarian, relevant knowledge and skills might include online videoconferencing, digital file production, blogging, social networking, etc. • The ability to stand, walk, bend, push/pull up to 50 pounds, and lift up to 25 pounds • Spanish language proficiency (preferred)
