Job Description

The Colorado Department of Corrections is seeking applicants interested in a Librarian II/School Media Specialist position in the Youthful Offender System and Pueblo Complex libraries in Pueblo, Colorado. This position manages staff and operations at three correctional facility libraries serving teens, adult male, and adult female offenders. Duties include collaborating with classroom teachers and providing structured, integrated information literacy instruction to incarcerated high school students; coordinating and supervising all general library activities to ensure equitable access by youth, adult, and special needs offenders; hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating library technicians in all three correctional facility libraries; preparing unit budget requests and justifications, managing library budgets, maintaining accurate fiscal records, and submitting narrative and statistical reports; selecting appropriate books, periodicals, and audio-visual materials for three distinct library collections in accordance with their collection development plans; purchasing library materials, equipment, and supplies; cataloging materials using the library automation software and maintaining computer catalog and automated circulation system; directly monitoring youth, adult, and special needs offenders and enforcing security regulations and library rules. Strong skills in customer service, training/instruction, active listening, and oral/written communication. Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications and integrated library systems.

Must be at least 21 years of age. Must have NO felony convictions. Must possess a valid State of Colorado Driver's License. Must successfully complete the DOC Basic Training Academy coursework in Canon City upon hire, including lecture/exam, a physical self-defense componenet, and AHA certification. Application process includes a urinalysis and background investigation for clearance to work in a correctional facility.
