Job Description

Responsibilities: This full-time Education and Reference Support Coordinator State Classified position is responsible for coordinating and providing administrative support for the Education and Reference Department of the Health Sciences Library (HSL) by coordinating Ask-A-Librarian (AAL) services, managing the HSL Teaching Lab schedules, and advising department head about budgeting and equipment purchases. Specific duties include maintaining Ask-a-Librarian schedules and desk coverage; covering AAL services up to 24 hours per week; maintaining reports and statistics; scheduling Education and Reference classes as well as other library events; scheduling Library Teaching Labs using EMS software; requesting and assisting with AV needs for meetings and events; creating and maintaining ResourceGuides using LibGuides software; updating class handouts; developing, revising and recommending policy changes/updates; and providing general library assistance which includes, answering phone, checking library materials in and out, programming and selling photocopy cards, searching and retrieving information from the library databases, and assisting patrons with reference books, indexes and abstracts. This position functions as the library liaison for referral/call-in of librarians and assisting with customers. An understanding of medical terminology in order to respond to challenging health sciences questions is preferred. Assisting with teaching library classes will also require proficient skills in working with library databases.
