Job Description

Looking to apply your library and staff management skills in an exceptional and unique work environment? Eager to meet the challenges of one of the toughest and most rewarding subfields of librarianship? Have you ever suspected, even for a moment, that you really do belong behind bars? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be the Colorado Department of Corrections’ next Librarian II! Due to retirement and career advancement, Sterling Correctional Facility and Denver Women's Correctional Facility each have need for a professional Librarian. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring a team of Library Technicians, including hiring, training and evaluation. Under the direction of a Program Manager and Regional Librarian, this full-time position will plan, coordinate and supervise public/school-type (not law) library services to adult offenders at multiple libraries, where an average of 92% of the population uses the library. Colorado Department of Corrections seeks an employee who wants to build a rewarding, high-impact correctional career and provide an environment where offenders obtain meaningful work and self-improvement opportunities as they prepare for community re-entry. Current library staff seek a creative, enthusiastic, and energetic team leader with library and supervisory experience, a sound moral compass, and a vision for their libraries’ future. The offenders seek a librarian who will build and continually develop a central information center that meets their informational, educational, recreational and cultural needs and interests. Prior correctional experience is not required. For full duties and responsibilities, description of benefits, conditions of employment, and instructions to apply, see http://tinyurl.com/CDOC-LibrarianII.
