Job Description

Date Posted: March 30, 2012 Application Deadline: April 6, 2012 Location: Sam Gary Branch Library (in Stapleton) Opening Summer 2012 2961 N. Roslyn St. at 29th Ave. Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours. Salary Range: $16.60 - $19.83 per hour starting salary range; $16.60 - $24.25 per hour full salary range. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers by checking out and returning books, registering customers for library cards, and responding to customer questions and issues about circulation matters. Assists with the direction, training, and supervision of clerical staff. Supports the Library’s strategic initiatives of providing early literacy experiences to infants through preschoolers, developing school-age readers and life-long learners and enriching adult lives. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Skill in operating computers, working with attention to detail, and making simple mathematical computations. Skill in providing leadership. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to thrive in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, volunteers and the community. Ability to assist in the selection, training, motivation and supervision of clerical staff. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Experience: One year of experience in library circulation, including experience providing customer service and resolving customer issues. Proven initiative in prior positions is a must. Special Requirements: A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made. Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
