Job Description

Plans, coordinates, supervises, organizes and directs the early childhood literacy services division of the District, within the framework of DCL’s services and programs. Assumes responsibility for the effective execution of programs and services in support of early literacy and childhood literacy, within the District’s broader program of services. Requires substantial application of professional knowledge and experience. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative.

SALARY: $4,075.07 - $5,702.67 Monthly JOB TYPE: Full Time – Exempt (40 hours) LOCATION: Philip S. Miller Library, Castle Rock, CO 80104 DEPARTMENT: Support Services CLOSING DATE: Friday, 04/27/12 (11:59 MST)• At least two years of professional literacy education experience is required, working collaboratively with community-based organizations. • Broad knowledge of early literacy and childhood literacy: child learning theories and philosophies. • Proven ability to take initiative to grow, enhance and redefine a literacy program. • Extensive knowledge of print and non-print materials and specialized resources related to the literacy field is required. Extensive knowledge of general bibliographic tools and of specialized resources related to literacy is required. • Proven ability to stay abreast of trends and research in the literacy field. • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with outreach techniques and in library work related to literacy. • Demonstrated interest in community/public library work and a willingness to develop strong, interactive community relationships and partnerships. • Excellent and proven oral presentation skills and written communication skills. • Strong ability to work effectively and well with staff and public in a multicultural environment. • Experience managing volunteers. • Computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database management skills are preferred. • Must have the ability to learn and become proficient in functions required to perform job duties, working effectively independently or as part of a team to complete tasks as assigned. • Must communicate effectively using English. Must read and write English at a level appropriate to the position. • Computer Skills: Must demonstrate proficiency in computer use including internet, email, Microsoft Office Products (or equivalent). Keyboard skills required at an equivalent of typing 50 words per minute with minimal errors. Must be able to learn and become proficient with equipment and software programs as required to effectively and efficiently perform assigned duties. • Physical Abilities: Must have the physical ability, stamina, mobility and manual dexterity to: Work at computer workstations, repetitively for extended periods. Access and transport relevant materials up to 35 pounds, and read a minimum 8 point font, regularly. Participate in meetings or events at various locations and hours, as required. On an occasional basis, tolerate residual smoke, dust, mold or foreign substances on materials.
