Job Description

Exceptional opportunity for a versatile professional to provide services for a multi-type regional library system in a 14-county area in Western Nebraska. Provide one-on-one consulting to the libraries as requested. Plan, organize and present continuing education activities for System library members. Maintain an active System program of public relations pertaining to System services and to the Nebraska Library Commission. Coordinate activities of the Panhandle Library System with those of the Commission. Assist with the implementation of the Nebraska Library Commission's long-range plan working the Panhandle Library System Board. Prepare a biennial service plan and budget for the System with the Panhandle Library System Board and the Nebraska Library Commission. Visit and communicate with System members from all library environments on a frequent basis or as requested. Possess knowledge (or be willing and able to gain the knowledge) of traditional and emerging areas in libraries, such as new technologies, and be able to share information about these with others. Promote library services through regional, inter-regional and statewide projects. Work effectively with a wide variety of people inside and outside the library field. REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree in library science from an American Library Association Accredited program, with a minimum of three years of professional library experience. OTHER: Valid driver's license for travel and consulting within the system. Extensive travel with some required during weekends and evenings. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience in library-related areas such as administration, collection management, reference, technology, etc. and the ability to work well in collaboration with a variety of people inside and outside the library field. Ability to organize, implement and present continuing education activities.

This position location is in the Scottsbluff/Gering community in western Nebraska. Scottsbluff is a city in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 15,039 at the 2010 census. Scottsbluff is the largest city in the Nebraska Panhandle, and the 13th largest city in Nebraska. Scottsbluff was founded in 1900 across the North Platte River from its namesake, a bluff which is now a National Park called Scotts Bluff National Monument. The smaller town of Gering had been founded south of the river and the two cities have since grown together to form the 7th largest urban area (Scottsbluff Micropolitan Statistical Area) in Nebraska. The nearby Western Nebraska Regional Airport (BFF) is the third busiest airport in Nebraska in terms of passenger boardings.
