Job Description

Become a Librarian at the Learning and Language Branches and bring services to customers who are working towards an improved quality of life. The key role of this branch is to bring bilingual library services and resources to a diverse customer base that includes new immigrants and their families. Programming for adults and children will be a focus of this branch as part of a bilingual and intergenerational environment.

Creates lifelong library customers by implementing library services designed to serve and empower a population eager to engage in their community and explore new frontiers. Fulfills the expectations of a diverse population as part of team of branch libraries. Addresses the largest language needs in our communities, Spanish and Vietnamese, and includes other languages such as Arabic. Designs and provides programming and an environment that fits the needs of new immigrant and bilingual families as well as those seeking to learn new skills. Promotes community outreach and programming. Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration.

Required Education

  • Master's Degree

Other Required/Preferred Skills & Experience

Knowledge of providing library services to customers with different levels of literacy or technology abilities. Skill in providing programming and library services in a bilingual and intergenerational environment. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and ages. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to work on initiatives across a cluster team of branches. Ability to perform community outreach and programming for all ages.

Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service preferred.

Spanish language skills are a definite plus. A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made.


Masters Degree in a Program of Library and Information Science
