Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located in beautiful Golden, CO, is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy’s effort to secure an energy future for the nation that is environmentally and economically sustainable. Library Specialist Requisition #2769BR Temporary Employee - Full Time Job/Research Summary Provide support to the NREL Library interlibrary loan (ILL) and document delivery services. Work with other library staff to process requests for all types of published information: journal articles, books, reports, standards, patents etc. Scan documents. Verify citations using various library catalogs and databases, the internet, email contacts etc. Work with clients to understand their requests and to keep them informed on the status of their requests. Support library collection maintenance. Provide support to the NREL reports digitization project. Perform related library duties as required. Job Duties Use ILLiad, OCLC and other library systems for ordering, tracking and fulfilling ILL and document delivery requests; Scan documents and convert to PDFs; Search library online catalogs and bibliographic databases in order to verify citations and locate requested documents; Locate and shelve publications in the Library’s collections; Prepare materials for delivery and mailing; Communicate with clients in a timely and professional manner; Coordinate work with other members of the team; Participate on the Digitization Project team: Pull reports to be digitized, Assist in the electronic preparation of technical reports, conference papers, subcontract reports etc. for posting (Word, PDF, etc.), and Create PDF/x and Section 508 compliant PDFs. Keep appropriate records or metrics for work performed; Provide excellent client services. Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Full knowledge of specialized focused business support functions. Complete understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the business support activities, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered. Fully competent in applicable software packages and office equipment. Demonstrated project administration skills. Full knowledge of specific principles, procedures and practices related to supported fields and disciplines. Strong written and verbal communication skills, team and interpersonal skills. Additional Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Working knowledge of Library systems and processes; Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat; Detail oriented, with good data entry and proofing skills; Ability to take direction and work on a team; Efficiently prioritize duties and multitask as needed; Good organizational and time management skills, and flexibility; Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; Excellent oral and written communications skills; Strong customer service orientation – works with all levels of employees; Excellent problem solving skills; Physical requirements of the job: able to scan documents on large format scanner; shelve library materials; work at a variety of computer workstations; light lifting. Preferred Qualifications Experience using ILLiad, OCLC, and Adobe Professional; Understanding of scientific and technical literature citations; Experience searching and verifying citations in scientific databases, e.g. ISI Web of Science, Engineering Index, SciFinder; Experience working in a scientific or technical environment or research organization; Experience with Adobe PDFs and electronic journals; Recent Library & Information Management graduates.
