Job Description

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries, committed to the advancement of scholarly communication through digital initiatives in repositories, scholarship, and Open Access publishing, seeks a dynamic and forward looking librarian for the position of Scholarly Communications Librarian. This position will provide leadership in the development of strategic directions for scholarly communication programs as a key member of the Libraries’ Scholarly Communications Working Group and the Scholarly Resource Development Department. This position advocates for new forms and practices of scholarly communications to campus and external constituencies. The successful candidate will provide in-depth guidance on author rights and Open Access publishing and will participate in developing education and outreach on scholarly communication issues for faculty, students, and the community at large. This position also serves as the Library’s primary resource on copyright compliance, fair use, and other copyright issues that pertain to library collections and services. This position reports to the Director for Scholarly Resource Development, which includes Scholarly Communications, Collection Development, Acquisitions, and ILL Borrowing, and works closely with subject specialists in all disciplines. The successful candidate participates in departmental initiatives and may assume subject specialist duties in an area of the candidate’s expertise. Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member. Depending on professional experience, appointment will be at the assistant professor or senior instructor level. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA-CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.

Requirements: • MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA accredited program or equivalent, completed by December 31, 2012 • 2 years of experience working with scholarly communications issues, Open Access publishing, or institutional repositories • Experience with copyright issues related to library collections and services • Experience planning and facilitating workshops and classes • Demonstrated experience collaborating with faculty and/or other stakeholders • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Preferred Qualifications • Post MLS/MLIS experience in an academic library • Demonstrated expertise with copyright issues • Evidence of familiarity with emerging trends in scholarly communications • Demonstrated ability to manage and complete projects • Demonstrated ability to assess and improve services • Evidence of achievement in research or creative work and professional service
