Job Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of computer systems administration and support tasks, including analyzing, constructing, documenting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and supporting library specific software applications, hardware, peripherals and communication devices for the Library and Arts department. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Administers and supports the integrated library system (ILS) for the Flatirons Library Consortium (FLC). (45%) This includes: • Manages all systems operations and oversees the production of statistical reports. • Acts as primary contact to ILS vendor for acquiring bids and new software modules, reporting problems, and requesting support. Handles all system upgrades. • Works collaboratively to support library acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, reference teams by researching, evaluating, recommending and testing new software, hardware and techniques for information delivery that improve access and are compatible with the ILS. • Coordinates with eServices staff on troubleshooting and reporting ILS issues to the vendor and the planning, implementation and operation of all technology that affects the ILS used by the Boulder Public Library (BPL) system and consortium member systems. • Manages the interface and handles billing of third party software and/or vendors that support the ILS. • Supports the eServices Manager in creating the annual ILS billing for the consortium, pro-rating costs based on several measured factors. • Serves as one of the representatives of BPL and FLC to address logistical issues with the InnReach system (Prospector). • Works with supervisor to predict trends, evaluate long range needs and recommend solutions for library ILS and logistical issues. 2. Trains BPL staff on relevant modules of the ILS, Evanced, and Springshare including upgrades and new products. Trains key consortium staff on relevant modules of the ILS including upgrades. (30%) 3. Serves as an advisor to the BPL leadership team, eServices Manager, and the FLC directors on matters concerning the ILS and associated technology. (10%) 4. Administers the Evanced events calendar, meeting room reservation, and Summer Reading program software; and the Springshare LibGuides and LibAnswers software in the absence of the Web Services Specialist Advises the eServices Manager on how these tools are used. (10%) 5. Monitors Web feedback e-mail: replies to patron comments and questions, or forwards to appropriate library personnel in a timely manner. (5%) 6. Attends and contributes to the following meetings to stay informed about changes and trends and to support other departments on matters of service delivery as it relates to the ILS: collection development steering committee and Public Service Team (monthly), and FLC committees (as needed). 7. Maintains membership in Innovative Users Group and attends regional and national meetings and trainings, as budget allows. 8. Other: • Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the city. • Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to city property. • Responsible for knowing and complying with all city and department policies; participating in professional training and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.

Machines and equipment used include, but are not limited to the following: Frequently uses computer workstations, systems management tools, web page update tools, file/print servers, hubs, switches, network interface cards, PC cards, CD-ROMs, scanners, modems and other workstation ancillary devices, telecommunications equipment, copy/fax machines, and calculator. It is not meant to be all-inclusive.REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Minimum of two years technical training and experience in a library or similar setting. Experience in information technology field supporting Windows XP/Vista/7 operating systems. Experience with computer workstation software applications (word processing, spread sheets, and database applications) and office automation products. Previous work experience demonstrating analytical and software/hardware problem solving skills, and project leadership skills. Previous experience in training individuals in the use of software applications. Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills, customer service skills and project management ability. Valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record. Use of personal vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed). Strong ability establish/follow-through on the prioritization of user requests with limited direction. Understands and can perform basic PC troubleshooting. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS--In addition to the required minimum qualifications: Master of Library Science. Experience with the following: Innovative Interfaces Inc. Integrated Library System; Envisionware computer reservation and print release software; Windows-based computer workstations (Windows XP/Vista/7) operating in a networked (Windows, Linux) environment; Desktop applications (Outlook, MS Office); project management tools; Oracle client/server applications; and use of systems management tools for workstations problem solving and maintenance (LANDesk). Experience with current popular mobile devices, troubleshooting and repair.
