Job Description

Don’t Miss This Exciting Opportunity to Join The Barkman Library Team! PCCLD is seeking a part-time Library Assistant to work with the Barkman Library Team. This position will participate in the preparation and presentation of departmental programs. They will conduct story times, tours, and special programs for customers of all ages. At times the Library Assistant will visit outside agencies to discuss library services and programs. This position will assist customers in borrowing and renewing library materials, paying fines and fees and by helping locate and research materials and information within the library and outside sources. The Library Assistant will assist customers by demonstrating how to use library resources such as computers, laptops, I Pads, downloadable materials and a variety of databases. About the Position: Participates in preparation and presentation of departmental programs for the community. Assists customers in locating material and by answering reference information and readers' advisory questions using the library's computer system, other databases, standard print, reference, and periodical literature. Explains library regulations and procedures, and resolves basic complaints. Instructs customers in use of computer catalog, personal computers, electronic databases, Internet, and other equipment. Plans individual story material, props and visual aids and presents story times. Participates in, and occasionally leads, special reading programs. Assists at the circulation desk with customer fines, over-dues, check-ins and check-outs. Prepares reports, compiles statistics, and performs other administrative duties. Assists in the training of other employees and volunteers for specific tasks; may supervise work for special projects as assigned by the supervisor. Processes new material and verifies incoming new materials against lists; completes paperwork, checks in material, and places material at the designated area(s). Processes requested incoming material and material on order. Receives material from other locations, determining proper action to be taken according to the category of material and/or type of request, completes paperwork, relocates material on the computer system, and sorts material to the proper location. Stays up to date on organizational events and announcements, regularly checks e-mail, reads the newsletter, announcements, posters and flyers. Supports a team effort to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and customers by staying alert and aware of proper procedures to follow when there is a disturbance. May recommend books and other material to be purchased, as well as materials to be weeded, to the department supervisor.
