Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This full-time administrative position exists to coordinate the essential functions of the Circulation Department while supporting the policies, procedures and mission of the Library and Learning Commons. This position will have primary responsibility for managing all circulation operations, supervising student assistants, updating circulation module in ILS, keeping statistics, providing reference help to patrons, purchasing office supplies and promoting library services to the ACC campus and community. This position works closely with the Library Director and librarians; excellent communication skills and ability to work on a team are essential. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. 30% Manage Circulation Operations: Oversee the circulation of all print books, help process incoming print material, manage overdue and fine systems and maintain the library reserve collection in compliance with U.S. Copyright Law. Create and enforce circulation policies and procedures. Update and maintain the circulation module in our ILS. 2. 30% Supervise Student Workers: Hire, train, evaluate, schedule and supervise all student workers who work with processing, shelving, and circulation of the library’s print materials. 3. 10% Maintain & Analyze Library Statistics: Coordinate with the other librarians to gather and analyze all library related statistics, including the usage patterns of materials and trends in patron needs. Prepare written reports monthly and annually. Maintain accurate records for all purchases and repairs. 4. 10% Manage Library Print Collection, Electronic Circulating Materials & Printing Equipment: Supervise maintenance of library circulating and reserve collections in accordance with Library of Congress call number system, including overseeing annual inventory, shifting of library materials when appropriate and supervising student workers. Maintain library’s collection of laptop computers, e-readers, and other circulating electronic hardware. Work closely with IT to ensure that all equipment is functioning properly. Maintain printers and photocopiers and supervise cash register operations. Serve as project manager for all facility and IT support maintenance and deployment. 5. 5. 10% Perform Reference Help: Serve as auxiliary reference librarian at reference desk and on AskAcademic as needed, utilizing the library’s electronic databases, ebooks, and print materials. 6. 10% Service to Library Team and College. Work closely with the rest of the library team to develop the strategic plan for the library and meet shared departmental goals. Represent the library at college functions and meetings, including giving presentations or performing outreach to faculty, staff, and students. Serve as subject-area liaison to assigned academic departments and contribute towards collection development for those subject areas. Participate on college committees as needed. Purchase office supplies as needed and submit work orders for facilities and IT. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Minimum Qualifications: • Master’s degree of Library Science or Master’s degree of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution; • Knowledge of contemporary best practices in academic libraries; • Reference or public service experience in an academic library; • Experience with MS office; and • Commitment to excellent customer service. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience hiring, training, evaluating and supervising student workers; • Experience with database management; • Knowledge of technology trends; • Strong verbal communication skills • Ability to communicate well one-on-one and to large audiences; • Two years of experience working with a diverse student body in a comprehensive community college; • Working technical knowledge of ILS systems; and • Experience administering library systems and/or working closely with technical support staff at library vendors. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally confined to a standard office environment. HOURS: Full-time (exempt); mostly days, with occasional evenings and Saturdays.
