Job Description

BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION: It is the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District to seek, engage and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community. This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill PPLD’s mission by leading library staff and directing the daily operations of the library. This position provides library services and materials to the local community and actively promotes the Library District through community outreach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Serves as “person in charge” of the library
• Works on the public service desks providing reference service to walk-ins, over the phone, via email, and instant messaging; and provides circulation service
• Assists and instructs patrons through material and on-line searches, computer software applications, reference/in-depth research, community referrals, and outside sources/collections
• Provides in-depth assistance and information about the library’s services and procedures
• Searches a variety of reference resources
• Provides readers’ advisory services
• Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions
• Manages daily workflow, assigns bi-weekly work schedules (including scheduling substitutes when needed), and verifies and approves timesheets. Supervises, coaches, trains, and evaluates staff, substitutes, and volunteers; participates in the interviewing, selection and hiring process of staff; and may participate in terminations as required. Maintains personnel records; and authorizes employee reimbursements from petty cash
• Promotes library services through tours, demonstrations, talks, and community outreach
• Uses computers, printers, TTD, fax, CD ROM and other business equipment as necessary
• Assess patron needs and provides pertinent materials in an organized fashion (including bibliographies, fact sheets, pathfinders, etc.)
• May teach computer classes for the public and PPLD staff
• May direct library merchandising activities (displays, bulletin boards, etc.)
• Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned
