Job Description
It is the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District to seek, engage, and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community. This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the library’s mission by providing general information and assistance to the public and participating in a wide range of support activities for Adult Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1 Works on the public service desks 20 - 22 hours a week providing reference services to walk-ins, over the phone, via email and instant messaging.
2 Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous, positive image of the library when
interacting with patrons and staff.
3 Assists and instructs patrons through material and on-line searches, computer software applications, reference/in-depth research, community referrals, and outside sources/collections.
4 Maintains periodical collection – processing, checking in and shelving new issues and pulling old issues, collects, stamps, check in and labels newspapers; filing updates in loose-leaf reference services; pulls, deletes and discards old periodicals on a monthly basis.
5 Conducts monthly magazine sale and bi-annual periodical use survey.
6 Provides reader’s advisory services.
7 Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions
8 Promotes library services through tours, demonstrations, talks and displays.
9 Assists with planning, implementing, and promoting adult library programs.
10 May facilitate monthly book club at assisted living center. Will teach basic computer classes and one-on-one training sessions to the public.
11 Performs other related duties as assigned
Additional Info & Requirements
1. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in any field or an Associate of Library Technician degree.
2. Requires a minimum of 1 year of library or other public service work experience
3. Requires intermediate-level proficiency using Microsoft software applications (specifically MS Word, Excel, Outlook): prefer candidates that can accurately type at least 45 wpm.
4. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment. Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse patrons.
5. Requires an essay. In order to be considered as an applicant for this position, you must compose and submit a typed, double-spaced, 250-300 word essay in response to the following Question:
“On a scale of 1-10, with 10 the highest, how do you rate your customer service skills?”
