Job Description

Pikes Peak Library District seeks a dynamic, creative, strategic visionary leader with demonstrated expertise in community engagement and outreach.  This is your opportunity to inform and engage more than 607,000 residents in El Paso County residents with one of the most innovative library districts in the nation, with the Center for Public Media, Business and Entrepreneurial Center, a 400 seat Performance & Meeting Venue, and more!

It is the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District to seek, engage, and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community.  As a member of Leadership Team, this position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the Library’s mission by overseeing public and media relations, community outreach initiatives and programs, marketing, strategic community partnerships, video and print production, and meeting room services. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops and oversees strategic marketing, public relations, Internet and social media content, internal messaging, media relations, and community engagement/outreach activities.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the District’s strategic partnerships spanning all areas of services and programs. Manages major programming initiatives in cooperation with public services and community entities.
  • Represents the District in the community through board and committee participation, speaking engagements, event and activity attendance, and through submission to print and virtual publications
  • Contributes to Leadership Team in strategic planning, policy analysis and recommendation of revisions, issue management, and establishment of procedure and protocol in all aspects of district oversight.
  • Manages budgeting and financial processes for CEOO and assumes budgetary responsibility for Community Engagement and Outreach, Center for Public Media, and meeting room coordination. 
  • Directs the development and utilization of PPLD’s audio and video production services, broadcast and streaming outlets, funding through the Southern Colorado Educational Television Consortium, and operation of C3Center for Public Media and Time Gill Center for Public Media.
  • Oversees PPLD’s meeting room services for internal and external use including software selection and maintenance, policy and procedure development, support service coordination, audio/video and projection systems, and reporting.
  • Manages CEOO personnel matters including, hiring, training, review and evaluation
  • Identifies and coordinates opportunities for recognition at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Manages all outside public relations related contracts with the Finance Office.
  • In cooperation with the Human Resources Office, manages all public relations and outreach-related training.
  • Maintains current knowledge of library public relations, marketing, and public library positioning.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Requires at least five years of progressively responsible experience management in public relations, marketing, strategic partnerships and media relations; including the ability to craft and maintain promotional plans, community engagement plans, crisis communication plans and video production plans.  
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team, assign and follow-up on tasks to ensure quality of work completed; ability to plan short-term and long-term objectives for CEOO Staff and align departmental activities with District goals.  
  • Prefer experience working with public information in a library setting or knowledge of nonprofit public relations or marketing practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, a “whatever it takes” work ethic, and an excellent customer service attitude.
