Job Description
The library director serves under the Board of Trustees and as the chief executive officer and financial officer of the District is responsible for all functions related to the operation of the library. Key duties and responsibilities of the Director include:
• Managing day-to-day library operations, hiring, training, and supervision of library personnel with an emphasis of building an organizational culture of service and commitment.
• Being a public presence of the District and a partner in community projects. Engaging in cooperative relationships and networking with other libraries, library professionals and community organizations and leaders so as to best serve District patron needs.
• Working to continue the District’s highly effective comprehensive planning process which evaluates the needs of the public and establishes directions and actions for facilities, services and programs.
• As financial officer of the District, formulating and administering an annual budget, ensuring fiscal operations are conducted and managed in accordance with Board direction and established accounting standards.

• A thorough knowledge of modern library purposes and standards and of professional library principles, practices and procedures.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• An understanding of management principles and practices as they relate to the administration and management of libraries.
• The ability to plan, organize, develop and implement a comprehensive and coordinated library services programs.
• The ability to motivate, direct and supervise employees, including professional, paraprofessional, clerical and volunteer personnel in a manner that is conducive to maximum performance and morale.
• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, board members, other governmental officials, organizations, professional peers and the public.
• The ability to present ideas and programs effectively both orally and in writing.
Creative planning, execution and management skills are essential required qualities as the library district continues to expand.
The Community
The Berthoud Community Library District is located in northern Colorado in the Town of Berthoud and serves a population of approximately 11,000 in town and the surrounding area. The area is comprised of a highly educated, science and technology-oriented population as well as long-time farmers and many retirees. Nearby are 3 universities and 2 community colleges. Lifestyle amenities include mountain and plains recreational opportunities, observatories, historical resources, cultural activities and much more. The area is undergoing significant growth which will soon present the District with challenges to ensure continued and expanded library services and facilities.
Originally a public library funded by the Town of Berthoud, the independent library district was established in 2008. Since becoming a district, library programs and facilities have seen vigorous enhancement. An enthusiastic and dedicated staff along with modern pleasant interior surroundings and outdoor gardens have made the library a warm and welcoming center of the community.
