Job Description

What You'd Do:

Work closely with multiple Denver Public Library locations to develop STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities for school age youth, including camps and programs-in-a-box. Design and implement all phases of developing STEM activities, including identifying presenters, coordinating the recruitment of teen volunteers, scheduling activities/programs, developing evaluation tools, participating in programs, facilitating groups, communicating with stakeholders, managing budgets and writing reports. Build and maintain relationships with a variety of youth-focused community organizations and cultural institutions. Provide support, training and quality control for associated staff and programs.

You Have:

Knowledge of youth programming, training and development. Skill in facilitating group conversations.  Skill in designing, preparing, promoting, implementing, delivering and evaluating STEM programs. Skill in presenting information to a diverse audience with a range of ages and cultures, both individually and in groups. Skill in choosing appropriate materials for programs and outreach. Skill in providing excellent internal and external customer service. Ability to ensure that detailed requirements, services and reporting activities are met. Ability to adjust programs and activities based on tangible and intangible outcomes. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and decision making in meeting organizational objectives. Ability to relate to the needs of young customers of all ages with varying skill levels and English language proficiency. Ability to thrive working in an environment with public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to be innovative, flexible and well organized. Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, social media and a variety of hardware and software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

Three years of planning and facilitating programs for school-age youth. 

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Other Things You Should Know:

The Denver Public Library is committed to continuing a successful after school experience and developing/implementing new programs that serve Denver’s children and youth during out-of-school time. Eventually, this position will coordinate all phases of the After School is Cool (ASIC) grant-funded, traditional afterschool program and assist in planning engaging and creative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) enrichment activities for out-of-school time.


Limited-term, 30 hours per week. This grant-funded, fully-benefited position is scheduled through July 31, 2016 with potential for longer employment.
